Help: Close Approaches List

These tables contain close approaches of NEAs with the Earth within 0.05 au foreseen in the next year (Upcoming close approached to Earth), or that happened in the past 30 days (Recent close approaches to Earth). These tables can also be also automatically downloaded through HTTPS APIs, see instructions in Automated Data Access. The entries of the tables are described below.

Object designation. Designation of the object as given by the Minor Planet Center. This entry can be clicked to access all the data and services available for that object at the NEOCC.

Close approach date in UTC. Date at which the close encounter with the Earth takes place.

Miss distance in km. Distance from the centre of the Earth at the close approach epoch, in km.

Miss distance in au. Distance from the centre of the Earth at the close approach epoch, in astronomical units.

Miss distance in LD. Distance from the centre of the Earth at the close approach epoch, in lunar distances.

Diameter in m. Diameter of the object in meters. The asterisk indicates that the diameter has been estimated using the albedo range of 0.05 to 0.25. The value of 0.14 is used for the downloadable ASCII file, available in both TXT format and through APIs. Further information about the estimation of the diameter can be found in Definitions & Assumptions.

H in mag. Absolute magnitude of the object.

Maximum brightness in mag. Maximum brightness of the object during the close approach.

Relative velocity in km/s. Modulus of the relative velocity between the object and the Earth at the close encounter epoch, also known as the encounter infinite velocity, in km/s.

CAI. Close Approach Index as developed by Cano et al. 2021, which provides an assessment on how often an object of a given size passes within a certain distance and velocity from the Earth. Colour codes are the following: Blue = Very frequent event, Green = Frequent event, Yellow = Infrequent event, Orange = Rare event, Red = Very rare event.
