Precovery search

The possibility of browsing through the largest possible set of astronomical images and download them for inspection is extremely useful in order to find possible unidentified detections of NEOs or other moving objects. For this, a system allowing to perform searches for images covering the expected position of a small solar system object is essential.

Such a system is proved by the Solar System Object Image Search (SSOIS) developed by the Canadian Astronomy Data Centre (CADC), which can be reached at:

http://www.cadc-ccda.hia-iha.nrc-cnrc.gc.ca/en/ssois/

All our image data is searchable via this interface.

The SSOIS service is able to locate images from dozens of additional telescopes and observatories. More information can be found in Gwyn, Hill and Kavelaars, PASP 124:579 (2012).
